Important news about CC.

Hey everyone this is Greg the founder of Colored Controllers.

I am writing this to let everyone know that the controller side of CC will be on a little hiatus for the next 4 months.  I got an excellent opportunity that will require a pretty drastic move for a little bit; and I couldn't turn it down.  With that being said it will be a positive thing and will further benefit the future of CC for when I return.  Our studio is staying put in Philadelphia and most importantly CC is not going away for good

I plan on keeping the TouchProtect section up and functioning as normal (minus a short time to move and get situated)  With a couple of new designs launching around that time. There will be more info posted on that when the time comes.

What you need to know:

  • In the weeks coming up before the move I am turning off the controller section of the site.

As you know these take some time to make at the level of quality that we put out.  I would hate to have to rush out an order and have the quality suffer.  CC was founded with a quality first mentality and will not compromise just to make a quick sale.  All open controllers orders will be fulfilled within this time.

  • There is going to be a bit of a "garage sale" going on.

Moving can get expensive so what better way to get rid of some excess?  These will all ship quickly and avoid our normal production times since they are already completed.   All one price to keep it nice and simple.  Stay tuned for that!

If you made it this far, thank you. I appreciate you guys.

-Greg

Custom Zelda Nintendo switch

One last surprise was in order before the move.  Finally showing off this custom Zelda themed Nintendo Switch!

This took a total of roughly 23 hours to disassemble, prep, design, paint, and reassemble.  Made for a personal friend this project was worth the frustration dealing with tiny joycon internals.

We have a decent amount of travel in the next month or so.  Just wanted to give everyone a heads up as we are a very small team hand making these controllers.  If you order within this timeframe please keep this in mind as there may be some delays.

Our typical turnaround time is roughly 4 weeks (clear coat takes a good week to cure properly) Thank you for understanding, we love you guys!

Travel dates that will affect turnaround times:

  • April 8-14
  • April 20-26 (PAX EAST! Come say hi)

Kinda Funny Controller

The Kinda Funny Controller

Kinda Funny custom ps4 controller @coloredcontrollers

Here it is.  The controller I made for Kinda Funny.

This came about as I was listening to the gameovergreggy show while down in the studio working on controllers.  I had realized how many years it's been since I had started listening to podcasts of his.  I had already backed them on patreon but wanted something more tangible to give them.  That's when I decided to make them a controller.

Here it is starting to get a coat of pearlized white.  I wanted the logos to look crisp, and have a hint of pearlescent to them without being too flashy.

Not many people know this, but all of the paint on this controller was hand mixed.  I wanted to make sure it was the exact color I saw Kinda Funny use for their logos and branding online. One of the best things about our paint is that we have complete control of what the final outcome will look be.  This particular color is a blending of a couple of different paints and pearl pigments to create a slightly pearlized blue.  The ratio of pearls to paint is lower in this blend, as I wanted it to be subtle but still add some sheen in certain light.

And here is everything curing before clear coating and reassembly.  This controller was really fun to make; and the reaction Greg had when presenting it to him was awesome!

For those of you asking about where to buy this controller:  I have reached out to the KF crew to see if it would be something they are interested in.  But with that being said; it wouldn't be fair of us to sell anything with their branding on it without their permission or partnership.  As a fellow Kinda Funny fan I'm sure that's not the answer everyone was looking for.. but it's all we can do for now.  I've read every tweet and comment and really appreciate the love shown for this controller!

Behind The Scenes, The pax post

PAX East Recap: What a weekend!

Our journey started off rough; we left Philadelphia with heavy rainfall that was supposed to turn into snow later in the evening.  We encountered lots of bad weather and traffic that night, then made it to our stopping point for the night.

We woke up to some snow, but it wasn't too bad. As we got closer to Boston we started seeing people noticing the vinyl on our car.  They were holding up their Pax badges, honking, waving, you name it!  We even met a couple of people when we stopped to fuel up.  One thing I always liked about PAX is how friendly the community of attendees is.

hotel

We made it to our hotel, and had a bit of prep to do before hitting the show floor the next day.  Packing bags, organizing things, etc..

It felt good to see this sign again.

Here we are!  We both somehow happened to pack red pants so we ran with it.  I'm sure nobody even noticed with the sea of amazing cosplay out there.

The show floor felt a bit more spread out this year.  Some people complained about the lack of big names this year, but I found there was still plenty of booths to explore.

Our first stop was to head over to Kobra Kawaii booth to drop off the controller we made them.  I met Chris from Kobra last year at PAX and kept in touch throughout the year.  He's a great dude with an awesome clothing company that you should definitely check out.

alienware booth pax east 2015

The Alienware booth was pretty flashy, they had a huge truck with tons of lights in it.  But who are we to complain? Our car is chameleon colored.

The most important part of their booth was getting our hands on this controller.  The steam controller feels great, the touch pads don't take away from the controls like I had imagined.  I checked to see what kind of screws hold this thing together, and can't wait to take it apart once one of us gets our hands on one.

blizzard pax east 2015 overwatch

Blizzard impressed us with Overwatch.  We didn't actually end up waiting in line for it, but spent a good 20 miniutes watching the footage on their big screens.

pax east cosplay 2015

The cosplay was top notch.  Can you imagine carrying that gun around all day??

SushiGo

We walked the show floor for a while before heading to the board game area.  I managed to find a copy of Sushi Go! Which I discovered last year at Pax.  This game was just launched last year and hard to find for the majority of the year.  I snagged it the second I saw it.  After some more hangs, and exploration we called it a night and headed back to the hotel.

Day 2.  Did anybody wait in line for Halo 5?

Fable Legends Pax East 2015

Saw people playing Fable Legends.  I've played Fable since the first one, but am not sure how I feel about Legends being Free to play.  I'll give it a shot before knocking it.  That guy on the right threw us bracelets!

Supernova xbox one pax east 2015

Met up with instagrammer @brokentoyplanes.  She bought the Supernova controller we were carrying around.  Thanks Kat!

The rest of the day was filled with a couple of panels and some show floor exploration.

streetpass at pax east 2015

It also wouldn't be a Pax without clearing out streetpasses in the handheld lounge.

That night we headed out to Cambridge to grab some much needed food with the Kobra crew.

We even celebrated a birthday!

DAY 3:

I always make it a point to stop at the Mega64 booth for a photo and to grab a shirt or two.  This year's was pretty good.

...and here is last years.

The highlight of Sunday was hands down the Kinda Funny panel.  I have been a big fan of the guys in Kinda Funny for years, and wanted to make them a gift as a thank you. Read all about the Kinda Funny controller by clicking this link. I posted this on instagram while watching their panel trying to decide if I should go up to the mic to give it to them or wait and try to catch them afterwards.

Greg miller pax east 2015

I managed to personally hand Greg Miller the controller.  He seemed genuinely excited about it, and I managed to fumble through some sentences thanking him and everyone else for the years of content and entertainment.  I left feeling extremely excited that him and the rest of the guys could enjoy something I worked hard on.

The rest of the day was spent seeing the last things we all wanted to, grabbing last minute merch, and saying bye to friends and partners.  We played a bit of cards against humanity after the show floor closed, then said our final goodbyes and started the long drive home.  Can't wait for next year!

We're Going to PAX!!!

PAX

We are excited to announce that we will be at PAX EAST this year!   We will be walking around wearing some CC shirts and handing out some discount codes.  We'll also have some examples of controllers to show off (or buy, if you absolutely love them)

We can't be more excited about this news, we look forward to meeting all of you! If you see us don't hesitate to come say hi!!

Please note: Our entire small team is out here.  If you place an order please expect some delays.  Each and every controller is hand painted, and requires time for the clear coat to set in and cure before we ship out.  Just a heads up! Hope to see you there!

Quick update

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to update you all that we have been busy with orders lately so we haven't had as much time to focus on our instagram.  As you know we're a small team and really had to focus our efforts on sending our controllers to you!

Much love.
